“If you’re serious about changing your life, you’ll find a way. If you’re not, you’ll find an excuse.”
The “You Are A Badass” series by Jen Sincero is a mirage of self-help books that coach the reader on how to unlock their greatness by simply choosing to. Sincero uses quirky and relatable jargon interlaced with experience-based facts in You Are a Badass: How To Stop Doubting Your Greatness And Start Living An Awesome Life to deliver her message of being able to unlock one’s full potential and actually putting that potential to work, in order to manifest anything that is desired out of life. This book is separated into five different parts, each part with a number of smaller chapters that all focus on certain aspects of living and how to overcome your own mind.
Part 1 explains how subconscious thoughts and habits developed in childhood and how they contribute to stagnation as an adult. Part 2 teaches how to embrace oneself as the authentic being that you are. Part 3 teaches how to tap into Universal energy in order to attract the things that you desire. Part 4 talks about the Ego and how to let go of egotistical life projections such as control, fear, and procrastination. Part 5 reinforces tactics that can be used to stop doubting your greatness and start living an awesome life. Each part and each chapter flows together seamlessly and delivers the perfect message of being your authentic self.
As I look back on my read there are brackets and underlines everywhere of quotable phrases that are seemingly obvious life lessons. “It’s just as easy to believe we’re awesome as it is to believe we’re giant sucking things,” is an example of a quote that is worded so obviously but the message is extremely impactful. Sincero’s point of view of “just do it” gives the reader the push of tough love needed to begin their process toward healing actively. Sincero promotes a “no excuses” attitude about some of the more important discussions throughout the book, such as releasing control of outcomes to attract what you truly desire, living in a fear-based mindset, and letting go of things and thoughts that hinder growth. Perhaps the most important motif that shows up throughout the book is that of self-love. Every chapter ends with a reminder to love oneself for whatever reason and for no reason at all. She reiterates how self-love is the most important factor to master in order to attract positive manifestations into one’s life. This important message amplifies the readers’ consciousness and skyrockets the book into a top ten priority read.
Overall, You Are a Badass: How To Stop Doubting Your Greatness And Start Living An Awesome Life is a read well worth your time. Sincero really challenges the reader to become more aware of their thought processes urging them to “rewrite their truths,” and be unapologetically relentless towards that quest for self-love. I am excited to invest in the remainder of the series of books and learn different tactics to manifest what I want in and out of life. I am giving this read a solid 10/10 for density, humor, objectiveness, and content.
